T'IEN HSIAThe Presents of the Past: Reprinting Selections from T'ien Hsia Monthly![]() We have selected a number of articles published in the Shanghai magazine T'ien Hsia Monthly from 1936-40 that relate to the theme of this issue: Books, Collections and Libraries. Wen Yüan-ning, an editor of T'ien Hsia, as well as V.L. Wong comment on the modern library in Republican China. The other articles discuss books, book collecting and libraries in China's dynastic era, while Chuin Tung (Tong Jun) writes about the gardens of southern China. In his essay translated in the Features section of this issue the bibliophile Huang Shang refers to Tung's work on gardens, and how it survived the depredations of the Cultural Revolution.—The Editor ![]() An advertisement from Yuzhou Feng Magazine.
